2017 Conference and Workshop in Florence, Italy
Cultural Heritage Conservation and Sustainable Tourism and ICOMOS International Cultural Tourism Charter Review + 20 at the Romualdo del Bianco Foundation, Florence, Italy from May 18-19, 2107 was a key event for ICOMOS ICTC. It was an official ICOMOS event celebrating the International Day for Monuments and Sites in 2017. The theme that year, – Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Tourism - had been chosen to coincide with the United Nations International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development 2017 (IYSTD).
At the workshop, ICTC focused on cultural engagement as the fundamental underpinning and driver for creating successful tourist destinations. We asked “Is our conservation guidance sufficiently robust for such widespread involvement with the cultural heritage of the places visited as tourists?”
Following the Florence Symposium, it has been decided to place a resolution before the ICOMOS General Assembly in Delhi, India, which was approved as Resolution 19GA 2017/20 - “The Florence Declaration on Cultural Heritage Conservation and Sustainable Tourism for Development”.
