ICOMOS Germany, Austria, and Switzerland lead event on Cultural Tourism Charter

ICOMOS Germany, Austria, and Switzerland hosted a one-day professional event, “Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Tourism: The ICOMOS International Charter for Cultural Heritage Tourism” on September 5, 2025  at the Archaeological State Museum of Baden-Württemberg in Konstanz, held in German.

The programme introduced the newly published German translation (2022) of the ICOMOS Charter and explored its relevance for heritage management and tourism practice across the DACH region by presentations from experts and discussions. The resulting talks covered the Charter’s origins and contemporary challenges, including climate change, digitalisation, and participatory planning. This was complemented by case studies from leading institutions such as for example the World Heritage property "Hallstatt-Dachstein / Salzkammergut Cultural Landscape".

The event was a great success, which fostered interdisciplinary exchange. Printed copies of the publication were distributed to attendees.
