Cultural Tourism Charter presented at AGA 2025 meetings and sessions

The ICOMOS Charter for Cultural Heritage Tourism (2022) and its operationalisation were presented at several meetings and sessions during the 2025 ICOMOS Annual General Assembly in Lumbini, Nepal including the Scientific Council Meeting and the Scientific Symposium.

Scientific Council Meeting

ICTC Vice President Celia Martinez Yanez and bureau member Cecilie Smith-Christensen presented "Operationalising ICOMOS Charter for Cultural Heritage Tourism (2022) - Exploring its transformative potential" at the Scientific Council meeting on October 13, 2025 during the ICOMOS Annual General Assembly in Lumbini, Nepal.

Session 1-2-B - Discussion Session: Charters, Guidelines, and Strategic Plans

Dr. Martinez Yanez also spoke at Session 1-2-B, a discussion session on Charters, Guidelines and Strategic Plans on October 17, 2025 where she shared the experience of the ICTC in updating the Cultural Tourism Charter.

SDGWG Thematic Scientific Session

ICTC bureau member Faisal Abd Rahman delivered a presentation entitled "A peace seeking paradigm shift in cultural tourism" during the SDGWG thematic scientific session on October 17, 2025. The presentation elaborated on ICTC’s work to operationalise the Charter in context of ICOMOS Resolution on the Cultural Dimension of the SDG. The presentation, jointly written by Sofia Fonseca and Cecilie Smith-Christensen, focused on the Charter and its foundational reorientation for guiding planning and management of tourism from extraction towards regenerative development as an aspirational development paradigm for lasting peace. It was hybrid session with physical and online attendance.
