Hangzhou, 18–19 October 2025 — ICTC Secretary General Sofia Fonseca represented the Committee at the Third Liangzhu Forum, organized under the theme “Cultural Legacy and Civilizational Revival.” The Forum, convened by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the National Cultural Heritage Administration, and the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province, gathered international experts in cultural heritage, archaeology, museology, and tourism to advance dialogue on culture’s role in sustainable development.
Dr. Fonseca presented the ICOMOS International Charter for Cultural Heritage Tourism (2022) as part of her paper “Archaeology as a Platform for Resilience: Re-imagining Heritage Tourism in the Age of Climate Change,” co-authored with Peter H. Biehl (University at Buffalo, USA). Her presentation emphasized the Charter’s relevance as a framework for responsible and climate-resilient heritage tourism, promoting inclusiveness, community participation, and sustainability.
The Liangzhu Forum marks a key milestone in international cooperation on culture and heritage, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Convention on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions and the 40th anniversary of China’s accession to the World Heritage Convention.
